When it comes to low-end smartphones, one would easily be able to find numerous ones from various manufacturers able to cover their basic needs. However, the majority of these devices has a very low-quality camera. Namely, the selfie camera is too often unusable. ZTE Nubia M2 Lite
ZTE is a well-known Chinese company in the smartphone industry.
The company manufactures smartphones for all categories under the brand "Nubia".
The device we are going to review is the ZTE Nubia M2 Lite, and it is a low-budget phone.
This smartphone comes with the eight-core MTK6750 at 1.5Ghz. Clearly, it is not the most powerful processor on the market, but we didn't have any high expectations from a device at the $100 price range.
The ZTE Nubia M2 Lite features 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space, which is more than enough for any use. The 5.5-inch screen has a resolution of 720p (HD), while the battery is at 3000mAh.
However, the most crucial piece of hardware is the cameras. At the back, we will find a 13MP sensor, while the selfie camera features a 16MP sensor on the front.
As you may have guessed, the ZTE Nubia M2 Lite aspires to become one of the cheapest selfie phones on the market. Let's have a closer look at what it has to offer.
First Impressions
The package is white and quite minimalistic.
Inside the box we can see the device at the top, the charger with the USB cable, as well as a user manual.
At first glance, we can quickly tell that the design is amazing.
The phone is pure black with golden details at the sides, while at the back camera, there's a red stroke that gives an elegant look.
Holding in our hand was rather comfortable, and from the very first boot, we realized that the phone is targeted to photo lovers.
As for the software, it comes with ZTE's custom skin, called Nubia UI, based on Android M.
The ZTE Nubia M2 Lite was lag-free in everyday usage, and it didn't disappoint us in any simple task, such as browsing, YouTube, and so on. We also tried some games, and the experience was smooth and uneventful.
Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, without ever failing to recognize our fingers.
Performance
Regarding performance, the following table shows a comparison to the Cubot Magic we recently reviewed; they both belong to the same price range.
As we can see, the ZTE Nubia M2 Lite wins in all benchmarks, with quite a big lead in some of them.
Thus, we consider the performance to be quite a bit higher than what that much money would otherwise get you, which is great for a low-budget phone.
Camera
Even without considering the cameras, the phone managed to impress us. However, as soon as we took a look at the camera software, we couldn't hide our enthusiasm.
Indeed, the back camera can shoot amazing photos, with little to no noise under good light situations, bold colors, and crispiness.
Here you can see the photos in full resolution.
The video was also impressive at 1080p, and through the software, we can adjust even the slightest detail, in case we're not the type to leave everything to auto.
As for the selfie camera, the phone took it to another level. Here you can see all the photos we took.
Besides the beautifying settings, there are tons of other effects to choose from. Moreover, the camera kept taking selfies every time it detected the slightest smile on our faces.
Obviously, we have seen better quality cameras on smartphones, but they usually cost triple the money - or even more.
Let's not forget that we are talking about a $100 device. Any other phone in this category has far inferior cameras - even those created by well-known companies like Xiaomi.
There's no doubt that the company achieved their goal of creating one of the cheapest selfie phones out there.
Is it worth buying?
The device currently costs around $120 and is worth every penny.
As we mentioned above, the camera is not just decent. It is undoubtedly far superior to similarly priced devices, and sometimes, even more expensive ones.
Especially for selfies, the ZTE Nubia M2 Lite can be a great ally. We strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a low-budget phone that focuses on photography and social media.
Are you looking for a cheap selfie phone?
Undoubtedly, in the low-end category, we can't find many devices that claim to shoot high-quality pictures. The cameras in most cases are terrible. However, the ZTE Nubia M2 Lite has proven to be more than enough to cover our selfie needs, without spending a lot of money.
