Riddles are literally as old as time itself. The world's creation itself starts with a riddle we haven't definitively solved yet. Riddle games are one of the best ways to exercise our brain and problem-solving abilities. Meanwhile, we can find dozens of games centered around the concept online, that feature multiple levels, as well as hidden clues in every text and image. Join us in discovering the best riddle games available online.

OddPawn
We will start with one of the best online riddle games, OddPawn, the self-proclaimed "Worlds longest and funniest online riddle".
This is a massive game, with more than 300 levels that get more difficult as we progress.
To play OddPawn, we first need to create a free account. Then the game allows us to start from any level we want. We advise you to begin with Chapter One.
Every level has a picture and a question we have to answer. After we solve it, we can move on to the next one.
The riddles can vary, ranging from math problems to logic questions, and many more.
OddPawn stands out because we became a clue hunter while playing. We can find these clues in texts, images, on the websites, its web address, and even in the page's source code.
OddPawn saves our progress, but it's better to bookmark the address of the last level we played. If we don't bookmark it, we will have to click multiple times, going through already solved riddles to find the unsolved one(s).
Also, OddPawn shows us how many users have reached a certain level, and how many have solved it. This adds an element of competition. Theoretically, the further we reach, the smarter we are.
We must mention that a few levels require sound.
Zahada
If we prefer traditional riddles, without having to deal with source code, images, and sound, then Zahada is the ideal choice for us.
Most levels are traditionally-styled riddles, and if we get stuck, then we can get help from our trusty friend, Google.
When we solve each riddle, all we have to do is write the answer on the page's URL.
For example, on the first level, which is the game's rules, all we have to do is replace "level1" with "youranswer."
Zahada's difficulty depends on our experience in riddle games. Apart from Google, we can also find help on the game's forum.
Notpron
The creator of Notpron wants its game to be among the hardest online riddle games out there, if not the hardest. However, most of the games on this list seem all too eager to claim of holding that title.
As per usual, every level gives us a clue, we solve the problem, and move on to the next level.
We can solve each level by clicking on the correct spot on the image, changing the URL, or by finding a username/password to jump to the next level.
Meanwhile, we might have to look for solutions outside the game. Apart from Google, we might even need to use an image editing program.
The difficulty gradually increases, so we get more satisfaction out of solving each riddle as we go.
Unfortunately, the only way to save our progress is by having a bookmark.
Moreover, the creator suggests keeping notes with our solutions, since clearing our cookies might cause us to lose all progress.
Amnesya
Before we start playing Amnesya, we must be adequately equipped. We will need an image editing software, and a sound editing program.
Nothing unfamiliar here. We can move to the next level by changing the URL. Meanwhile, we find clues on images, source code, and in various other spots.
With what we've seen so far, a tutorial comes as a surprise, but a welcome one at that. Its main purpose is to showcase all the possible spots in which we can find clues.
At this point, it's obvious that we need to bookmark the URL of our current level; otherwise, all of our labors were in vain.
Ouverture Facile
Someone might say that Ouverture Facile draws inspiration from Notpron.
In this game, we will encounter multiple levels of progressively increased difficulty, and we might get stuck in few of them for days before finally coming up with the solution.
Solving the riddles requires a ton of thinking, observation, online research, or even decryption of Morse code.
In contrast to the rest of the riddle games we've mentioned so far, on Ouverture Facile, we can press a button to move to the next level, or we can write the solution at the end of the URL.
In every level, there is a hidden hint, which we can take a peek at if we can't solve the riddle.
Ouverture Facile has 78 levels in total, and solving them isn't going to be a walk in the park.
Additionally, the game allows us to save our progress. That way, we can simply click on "LOAD" instead of "PLAY" to continue from where we left off.
E.B.O.N.Y.
Many would want E.B.O.N.Y. to be at the top of this list. We, for one, think that all the games on this list are worth our while.
The creator of E.B.O.N.Y wanted his game to be the weirdest riddle game online.
In comparison to the rest of the riddle games we saw so far, E.B.O.N.Y. doesn't consist of regular, unrelated riddles.
E.B.O.N.Y's are linked and follow a fully developed story with an intense plot, that makes you want to keep on solving them.
The controls are simple, and its requirements are similar to any other riddle game. Also, the tips we will find in the first levels make E.B.O.N.Y. the perfect game for both amateur and experienced players alike.
The main levels are 200. However, their total is way higher. That's due to the fact that each level has multiple solutions that lead to a different page.
We must note that the solutions to the riddles won't always make much sense with the information currently available. However, as we move forward, we will realize that everything comes together beautifully.
Finally, the creator still adds new levels, continuing the story of E.B.O.N.Y.
The DaVinci Code
We are probably not the only ones who tried solving these mysterious riddles alongside professor Robert Langdon while reading Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code.
For those who loved the adventures of the professor, as well as the book, publisher Random House created this game.
The game is very well-designed and will make us feel like a true detective. To solve the riddles, we will have to send emails, browse eBay, and decrypt codes.
The DaVinci Code has few levels, but we will have a pleasant afternoon if we want to become a cryptographer for a while, or if we merely enjoy riddle games.
Einstein's Riddle
Einstein's Riddle isn't like the rest of the riddle games. Here, we only have to solve one very well-known riddle.
Einstein's Riddle goes as follows: We have five, each of a different color, in which five people of different ethnicities live. Each person drinks a different drink, smokes a different cigar and has a different pet.
We have a few clues to start with, and to solve the riddle, we must figure out what belongs to whom.
Obviously, there are numerous apps, sites, and digital versions of this riddle. In this page, we will find a flash version with a drag n' drop function, and in this one, a simpler HTML version of it.
However, no matter how good the digital versions are, and how helpful the "tools" are, we still might need a pen and paper.
Braingle Puzzles
The riddle games we saw require time, patience, and maybe pen and paper to solve them. Thankfully, if we want something quick, without getting into much trouble, then Braingle Puzzles is the ideal game for us.
Contrary to the rest of this list's riddle games, in this site, we won't find consecutive levels of progressively increased difficulty that we have to solve. Instead, there are numerous unrelated riddles, and if one is too hard for us, then we can just skip it.
Moreover, on the top of each riddle's page, we can see how fun and how hard other users thought it was.
The First Door
We end this list with an honorable mention, which is none other than The First Door.
The First Door was one of the best riddle games online, but sadly, it's now gone. The game's website closed without anyone knowing why, or whether it's ever coming back again.
It held a special place in the hearts of some, while it was an ideal choice for amateur riddle solvers.
Solutions, and more games
Since we've come this far, it's safe to say that Google, and every other search engine, are our friends along this trip. The solutions can be found on various sites, and one of the best sources is GamersHood and Nordinho.
Also, it is always preferred to keep a file with the solutions of each game. As we saw, almost none of them games save our progress, and even if they do "save" it, it might unexpectedly get lost.
If all the games we listed aren't enough, or if we have already solved all of them, then we can find more on Reddit, which features a dedicated page for those who love riddle games.
How many hours have you spent solving riddle games?
We must admit that we have spent more time than we care to count in various riddle games. However, if one thing is for certain, it's that all games in this list are special in their own way, and every riddle solver who respects themselves should at least give them a try.
Since we are not going to stop solving riddles anytime soon, is there any game that we missed that you'd like to suggest? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
