Microsoft is using the default wallpaper as the Windows 10 login screen background. However, there is no option to change it - apparently the company feels proud of the window/laser thing. Here's how to use a freeware application to change the Windows 10 login screen background.
Unblock any international website, browse anonymously, and download movies and Mp3 with complete safety with CyberGhost, just for $2.75 per month:
First, take a full Windows backup
The application we will use is experimental, and there is a real possibility that it could break our Windows 10 installation.
So, before you attempt to change the Windows 10 login screen background, it's best to take a full Windows backup so that you can restore it should anything go wrong.
The app creators have a troubleshooting page with some guidance if we can't login anymore, but restoring a backup is a much simpler solution.
Download the W10 Logon BG Changer
Currently, the W10 Logon BG Changer doesn't have a website; we will find it on Github.
After we download the .zip file, we extract all the files it contains...
...and then run the W10 BG Logon Changer application. The application is portable and won't need a full installation.
How to change the Windows 10 Login Screen Background
The program's interface is simple enough. To change the Windows 10 login screen background, we just need to click on "Browse" and select a .jpg image.
If we like one of the other Windows desktop backgrounds, we will find them on Local Disk (C:) -> Windows -> Web -> Wallpaper, in four different folders.
It's best to select a dark-colored background, because the Username and Microsoft account email are in a plain white font without a border, and they won't show well in light color schemes.
A dark color scheme works much better.
We can also select the proper image scaling for our monitor's resolution.
It's best, however, to use a picture of the proper resolution to begin with, so we don't get any distortion and loss of quality.
Instead of a picture, we can also select a single color.
When we are happy with the preview, we click on "Apply changes". To check the result, we click on "Lock Windows".
